  1. MODALS
    Modals are auxiliary (helping) verbs.

We have learned about the use of the different modals in different expressions. For example:
    – Abilities
    – Advice
    – Necessity
    – Conclussion and
    – Future possibilities.

    The modals are:
    – Can – Cannot
    – Could – Could not
    – Should – Should not
    – Ought to
    – Had better – Had better not
    – Must – Must not
    – May – May not
    – Might – Might not
    – Have to
    – Have got to

Modals have only one form. They do not have –s in the third person singular.
Always use modal + base form of the verb.

  2. The MODALS are words that you can use for express FUTURE POSSIBILITIES,ADVICE,ABILITY,NECESSITY,PROHIBITION and CONCLUSIONS some examples of MODALS are the next:
    -CAN (CAN NOT)
    -COULD (COULD NOT)
    -SHOULD (SHOULD NOT)
    -OUGHT TO
    -HAD BETTER (HAD BETTER NOT)
    -MUST (MUST NOT)
    -CAN´T
    -MAY (MAY NOT)
    -MIGHT (MIGHT NOT)
    -BE ABLE
    -HAVE GOT TO
    -HAVE TO (DON´T HAVE TO)

MODALS have only one form. They do not have –s in the third person singular.Always use modal+base form of the verb.
    EXAMPLES:
We can learn to use it (ability)
    She should join Facebook (advice)
You must respond to him (necessity)

The examples above express social functions such as describing ability, giving advice, and expressing necessity

I remember: Modals have only one form. They do not have in the third person sigular. Always use
Modal * base form of de verb.
Usage Note: We often use can´t for prohibition in spoken English.
    Advisability in the Past.

  4. Modals.
    • You can use the modals for , prohibition, permission, possibility, ability, necessity, advice.
    • When you use the modals the verb is always in the base form
    • We often use can’t or must not for prohibition.
    • Couldn’t means that something is imposible.
    • The affirmative modals are: must, have got to, may, might, could , can.
    • The negative modals are can’t, couldn’t, must not, may not, might not.
    • We often use have got to to express strong feelings.
    • The modals have only one form , they do not have –s in the third person singular.
    • When you spoke about regrets , you have to use the present perfect following the verb in the past participle.
    • The modals for regrets are: should , ought to , could, might.

  5. On Monday we learned to practice and use modals and try to find where they are in an asignment or paragraph, but it wasn´t easy because it´s a little complicated all about that.
We´ve known the modals have been showed in differents ways like ability and advice, but recently we know the modals for necessity, conclusions and future possibility, which are dificult things a lot, because some of them are showed twice in different modals, and that´s why it´s hard.
And about regrets, I think it´s easier because I know where it can happen, how it can be used, and what the structure is.
(I think if we take a quiz about regrets, we will get an A).

    1. This class was interesting because, we were able to read, listen and look for amazing things online.
I will practice all those 3000 words!!

To use the modals the intruction is :

But you also can use the modals in many different ways.
We can use modals For Regrets
Advisability: Should have, Ought to have, Could have, Might have

  16. How i did learn English
Well, I started to learn English when I was 15 years old. I got my documents and information in pasatiempo Lourdes and I won a scholarship to learn English. When I started to study there, the schedule was from 7:00am to 11:15am and I had to make a big effort because after English classes I had to go to
higschool and it was very difficult for me study both things at the same time. I studied there for two years. Actually are three years but I couldn’t finish the thirth year. if only I had finished the course but I had many obstacles and that prevented me to continue with the course. I finished to study in pasatiempo Lourdes in 2013. This year I started in itca fepade and it was a good and different experience for me because I thought that was to be the same as pasatiempo. and at the beginning it was scared and funny for me but after three mounths to study in itca I learned too many things that I didn’t know and I never learned in pasatiempo and I feel that I have learned a lot of things in itca and I’m so happy about it and I hope to follow learning too much more because I want to be a biblingual person.

    1. Hi Jocelin , good reflections about your English language learning , congratulations cause you have looked for the opportunity , don’t miss this chance , on the other hand , please use this , that to refer better the times , a colon or semi colon would be useful too , amazing use of modals . keep going please.

  17. How did you learn English……?
When studying the school, the subject of English was mandatory, if at that
currently Professor stimulate the class and assuming that the resources in the country
were not the best. They would have used this opportunity knowing the English language in secondary language for other places to relacionarce among people.
At the end of school. between the university and at the same time felt the need to know the English language, so I could write in Saturday courses to meet the language Grammar. The problem that happens is that it is practiced or discussed the methodology of learning is lost. In the specific case you can make a new vision of learning. I remember it was difficult l my engineering studies and English at the same time so I could continue studying English for academic load.
After many years trying to retake the class at the cultural center, I could study for six months, but the work and responsibilities of my family no longer wanted to continue. It was only last year I said I have to keep learning English although my age it becomes more difficult.
Speculating. I think I could speak and understand the language more and with that I could improve my future. If you really did not forsake another level and had a learner I can confirm that if it was not possible now is the time to do so.
Advantages of the English language … 1 I can have better employment opportunities
2 Having friends from other countries where the language is spoken. 3 Briefly enter another world in which I find myself.
    Many thanks and blessing teacher

    1. Thanks Rafael , I understood some frustrations in your reflections , please double check use the Subject pronouns ,(I,you,he,she,it,we,they) , we cannot eliminate in every English statement , please use prepositions before an ing verb , ( of trying , about talking, like going ) . thanks for posting .
      Teacher .

  18. How did you learn English
I learned English by listening music I could listen lot. I have learned by books, tle top muth .I had then read every day. I should have learned more if I had studed more, another way for learning it way moth tle conversation in the book I have the conversation listened I must have studed more the internet is used by morn y leaned to keep listening English. I had read by book the institute the English, I have practice English every day I have watched TV I had exercise in English I have studying the class every day I have watched move . I have studed the books the instituted every day I have seen videos the conversation I had saw videos learn English as. I have practice speaking with my family

  19. When I was small used to listen to songs in English, trying to sing them but did not know how to say the words, also listened to talk to my uncles in English and I wanted to understand what they said but had no idea what they talked about, and so began to interest me English, although I never did anything to learn it, but I knew that I had to learn English.

When I was in seventh grade was where really I started to like English and it was at that moment that I wanted to learn to speak it, and why try to learn many things in English classes, but that was not enough, so I decided to study at ITCA when I finished high school.

I could have begun to study English earlier, but not did, so as I have learned a lot more in the last modules.

But if I’m studying English I will be able to obtain much knowledge about English, and soon will be able to speak it very well.

And having people who speak English to my around will be much more easy to learn it still, and of course with the help of my teachers. And I trust that soon I will be able to speak English very well.

I thought that English was very difficult as well as thought that personal to speak in long, but is is not so, because since I started I have learned much and this has only been in a year.

    1. Hello JV , thanks for posting your learning experience , please , consider use the subject pronouns pretty much often on every statement ,(I,you,he,she…) , the preposition ´TO ¨ is not necessary at all times. Plase , think twice when you use an object relative pronoun ¨that ¨, when is the object in a clause , you can omit ¨that ¨, for example , in the last paragraph you could have omitted .
your grammar it is acceptable at this point , congratulations .

  20. How did you learn English?

I have been studied english for five months, one day I thought that I should go to The school again, I can study in The mornings, I ought to have gone to college, my mother was agree with me. She could have told me that is a good idea, I learned english listening to music like Coldplay, U2 and others, watching tv programs like series or movies in english; also practiced talking with some foreign friends on skype, i have a friend from Australia who I speak who, he helps me with my english and I help him with his spanish, This is very important for me, because I think english is the universal language and speak it gives you a lot of opportunities. I must have practiced all the time. My teacher is excellent and he could have given a tool that we needed. In our country, english is spoken by manny people, if you want a better job or better salary, you need to speak another language. For this reason I’m studying English.

    1. Hello pretty Mom , please double check the next grammar points .
At the beginning of your writing you started with ; – I have been studied -, This is Present Perfect continuous , please use Present Participle form after ´been´; this should be ; I have been studying .

Your reflection about your Mom who was agree is ; – She could have told me that is a good idea – , well , the modal is completely correct , but the indirect speech was not correct , your Mom told you that WAS a good idea , just remember that direct speech moves from simple present to Simple past when is indirect , on this expression , what your Mom told you WAS a good idea .

On the other hand you wrote ; – I learned english listening to music – . Oh my gosh Marielos, this expression is not particularly correct , just recall we cannot use present participle forms without forms of Be , but you might use prepositions , you should have used – I learned English BY listening to music , the same case applies for your next expression – I also practiced BY talking .

Hold on Marielos , another matter more , but this is for good , I can see you are conscious about simple present tense when you refer to your friend in Australia , you have used third person singular .

Finally , your modals are good , thanks for posting despites your health conditions .
      Teacher .

  21. HOW DID I LEARN ENGLISH?

    • “REGRETS”
    • *SPECULATIONS ABOUT PAST*
    • /PASSIVE WITH MODALS/
    • [PASSIVE CAUSATIVE]

[I have had my mind caught] all my life in different things, one of them was how much *a famous movie named “High School Musical” had to have been* good for me In 2006.
“I could have learnt English in another way” and “my parents might have supported me” but I was in elementary school and I just saw the movie like a hobby in both languages but now /all the vocabulary and tenses in the songs can be used/ for the things that I practice every day in class.
So, with all the things that I learned, I think movies or series in /English should be taught/ in schools instead of buying expensive books or wasting time with a teacher that no one likes, *that may have been a great idea* because when I was a child [I liked to have my classes done] using the things that I had in my mind even the teacher taught me anything else, because sometimes I didn´t like English teachers maybe because of I´ve always been independent and if I were in school again, I´d be as it again.

(The symbols before the expressions are the grammar).

    1. Incredible Grammar performance Gaby , you have used all points we have been learning in class , I noticed your cognition goes over Metacognition .
I am surprised , keep going, it is nice to have you in class , please keep helping me in class .
      Teacher .

  22. How did you learn English?
I started to learn English in 2013. In the beginning was difficult because I only knew a few word and I can´t make sentences.
For me the itca must be the best school for learn English, I should have learned English in my high school but I didn´t and I ought to have studied more but at that time it was not important to me. I may have spoken English with only thirteen, I could have visited EEUU and speak English but I didn’t so right now I try to learn English very well.
The secret for learn English is listen to music, read some books , watch the movies , pay attention in class , learn the verb in past , base form, past participle, I want to get it so I studied every day, I had my mind ready for that.
For me learn English is very important because I have family in other country and them spoke English very well an you can find a better job.

  23. How did I learn English?

I have learned English with a lot of practice, when I was in high school I got classes -I was able to learn- basic words. Four years ago I was studying in another languages school; it was my first great experience. My older brother and I were taking classes together, he told me that -I must study and learn- English because it is important to get a better job.

Unfortunately I got a problem in my family and I did not have enough money to pay my English classes, so -I could not achieve- my goal of learn well another language. Some month after I almost got a new job, but they needed a bilingual person, then I thought it had been a bad idea do not continue studying English, in my mind I said “-I ought to have continued- learning English”. But some days after I got a job, in it I needed to talk a little bit English and there was when I started to practice and know a lot of new vocabulary. But I thought that -I might have lent- some money and continue studying, because the language is not easy and I felt that somebody has to teach me more.

-I must have learned- it two years ago, and instead I got a lot of difficulties to talk fluently. So one year ago I got a new opportunity to follow my goal about learn to speak well the language; and I do not doubt, I got it. I started to prepare me to evaluate my basic knowledge. Every day I told to myself -I could have gotten- a better job if I had finished learning English.

When -I got my evaluation taken- in the ITCA languages school, it was not as good as I hope, but I accepted it. And I am here every day trying to learn more about this interesting language.

NOTE: Teacher I am sorry I could not underline the modals and others because I did not know how, but instead I separated them with dashes.
    Thank you.

  24. How did I learn English?
Since I was a little boy I always wanted to be different and be able to communicate my ideas in other language.
All the time I have had a big imagination and now I think that is one of the things that make me look for the opportunities to get the things that I want and achieve my goals.
Because I did not want to be unhappy a day because I could not make my dreams come true and think ¨I should have applied for a scholarship¨ or ¨I could have looked for an opportunity¨.
Fortunately in my life I have met people that have helped me in many ways to get my goals achieved.
That’s the reason why in this moment I am able to learn english and make one of my dreams come true. But I must study everyday to learn as much as possible to get a perfect english in the future.
However the process has been hard to understand many things because in my native language everything is different.
That’s the reason why I might have learned and studied the tenses to speak correctly and also I must have practiced the pronunciation to articulate the words in the correct way.
The books have been an excellent tools to get resolved the grammar, and the exercises in class have improved my skills to get it learned.
So far the language can be spoken by me and I have the skills and the tools that can be used to express my ideas in english. And now I know I will be able to speak fluently in the future because I am able to improve everyday and learn new interesting things about the language.

  25. How did I learn English?
Well, I began to learn English since I was on kindergarten with something like: A-B-C; 1-2-3, words like: windows, door, “good morning teacher”… On each grade I had an English subject; it was just for the school so if I want to pass every year I had to study hard, I ought to have obeyed the schools rules.
But when I was on 7th grade I realized that my English was pretty basic, so I decided to study on formal classes and I stared at Itca on 2002 in the Teenager Communicative English Course. All the classes were at Saturday morning.
On September 23th, 2004 I completed all the requirements for the Teenager Course. On January 2005, I stared de next course called YAP at Itca. All the students must have received 24 YAPS, However, When I was on 18´s YAP, I had to leave the class because I had to begin a PAES training, and I decided to continue it after de PAES because I din’t have enough time. I shouldn´t have left the class because I didn´t come back.
But seven years later here I am learning English again, because It is really important for jobs and If I don´t finish it, I might have problems in the future or maybe I won´t be able to have a better job and study opportunities.
2 weeks ago I did a quiz to evaluate my English, and the person in charge said: If you want to finish it, you need to continue at grammar class and I was able to register for the grammar weekdays class. It’s a pretty nice Class, I learn something new everyday. I decided that if I want to learn more, I must to study at home the things that I receive everyday at the class.

    1. Hi Fanny , You are amazing , you have ordered all the events nice , it is easy to understand and is very interesting , as yourself have noticed , this is a process that takes time and implies hard work , modals well used . congratulations , it is a pleasure to have you in this class.
      Teacher .

  26. HOW DID YOU LEARN ENGLISH?

I was studying English ten years ago and now, I know I shouldn’t have wasted the time and now I could be the best student. I should have studied more.
In this moment, I’m feel very happy because I began to study English again, one year and a half ago. I chose at the ITCA because is near to my house, and only I need to drive for five minutes. Now, I must study English every day, because I don’t want to flunk my English class.
I should have spent more time with my practice of English.
Secondly, I did learn English with the songs and movies.
The movies could have shown the subtitle in English, then is better for my practice.
I get my doubt resolved when I studied grammar, and I love having my homework done.
Good nigth every body and I should go to sleep now because I’m not going to be late to my English class.

    1. Hi Claudia , thanks for posting your experience , keep going patient ,modals well used , just pay attention to this points ;
You wrote – I am feell – , this is not correct , you meant – I am feeling – , for Present Continuous , remember use BE + Ing .
Besides that , you wrote – I did learn – , then remember that DID is an auxiliary for past tense , it has to be – I LEARNED English .
Thanks for posting and keep going , congratulations .
      Teacher .

  27. How did I learn English???

Well, my story “how I learned English”, began when I was studying the Elementary School but in that time the Subject (English) wasn’t important for me, in that time from my view point the english was just a requirement that I have to had to accomplish to advance to the next grade, so I had not interest.
In 2000 my parents decided enroll me in an english academy called Pro-Lingua, but I studied there only for a year…again for my lack of interest (now I feel regretful for that, I might have learned english since a few years ago, I shouldn’t have left of studying, but ¿what can I do? time wasted is time lost).
Continuing the theme, after my “adventure” in Pro-Lingua in 2006, I started to study at Centro Cultural, I should have studied english there around a year or may one year and some months, I don´t remember but I left my studies because I got a job and due to lack of time I couldn’t continue.
Today this is my third and last time for learn the language, It’s my goal to finish it and I will do it. I don’t have doubt that in a future I am going to get my TOEFL english certificate ¿why not? each of us can do it, we go for it!!!

    1. Hi Romeo , thanks for posting , Is this your 3rd time ? , well you know this learning process requires hard work , but congratulations cause you are really getting the point , your grammar use in modals is fantastic ,
