    Escalante was born to two teacheans, on December 1930 in la paz Bolivia. he taught mathematics for 12 years in his mother country before emigrate to the USA. after emigrating, he had to more many odd jobs, teach himself English and earn to the classroom

  8. in 1982, Escalante came into the national spotlight when 18 of his students passes the challenging Advanced Placement Calculus exam. The Educational Testing Service found these scores to be suspicious, because all of students made exactly the same math error on problem #6 , and also used the same unusual variable names. in 1983, the number of students enrolling and passing the A.P. calculus test more than doubled. That year 33 students took the exam and 30 passed.

    In 1982 Escalante came into the national spotlight when 18 of this students passed the challenging Advanced Placement Calculus exam.
    1988 saw the release of a book Escalante: the best teacher in America by Jay Mathews and movie Stand and Deliver detailing the events.
    Later life and death:
    As of march 2010, he faced financial difficulties from the cost of his cancer tretment.
    members from Stand and Deliver, including Edward James Olmos, and some of Escalante’s former pupils,
    raised funds to help pay for his medical bills.
